And the lack of any sort of help or explanation for both Fan Control and smc is a little annoying. All Intel Macs supported + any conflicting programs are automatically closed and reopened. Allows control of fans in Apple computers in Windows and monitoring of temperatures. Is the 3000 range acceptable? Does it drain too much battery life? What are the exact definitions for the lower and upper thresholds? It seems like a great program, but to someone who has never had to worry about fan tweaking until now, it seems a little ambiguous. Download Mac/SMC Fan Control for Windows (+ Temp) for free. Wondering if you attached some sort of cooling device to the outside of the cabinet (like a water cooler) if you could get a more effective solution rather than just moving around air. It seems to me that the fans are trying to get the temp down to 48 as much as possible, so the RPM's read at about 2800-3000. I had been told the metal mac cabinet on the new iMac's was intended to act as a heat sink. I'm assuming the lower threshold is the minimum temperature to aim for? Right now mine is set at 2400 RPM base speed with a lower of 48'C and upper of 70'C Yes I understand it is to set the minimum fan speed, but what about the lower threshold and upper threshold? The thing I really can't stand about either apps is a detailed explanation on the settings. Makes it feel like it's part of the system. I decided to go with Fan Control because I really like how it goes into the System Prefs. I was using smc for my MBP's fans but I didn't like the idea of it being a program that had to be started on its own (or at log in).
